About Me and this Website1) After finding out that I had diabetes in June of 2006, I wanted to do something constructive with all of the anger and emotions I had -- I also wanted to help others with this disease, so the result is this website. 2) There are a lot of people out there who feel the way I do, so I wanted to make a personal site that others can connect with. By writing a journal, the reader can experience what I am going through and not feel alone. For instance, I admit it, I love food and the thought of not eating what I want, when I want, and how much I want is truly devastating to me. There are many people who do not understand this - maybe you do. I am really apprehensive about making myself bleed in order to use the glucose meter - maybe you are too. I have to hope that I am not alone, and neither are you. You can make your own comments on each of my entries as well. Once the site is up and running, I will also be including a forum for people to discuss diabetes and other issues - or just a place for people with diabetes to meet. 3) After doing some preliminary research, I have found that most of the diabetes sites are either too corporate, too medical or just too complicated -- they do not really seem like they are for the average person. In fact, I came across an articles entitled "Diabetes Websites Too Complicated" (click here for article). I will try to make this site as easy to use as possible. I will also try to include information for different levels of understanding. For instance, I may include a very basic summary of what diabetes is so anyone could understand. However, I may either reprint or link to more comprehensive articles for those that want to know more. 4) I am not a medical doctor and do not pretend to be one. I will not give medical advice on this website. If you want medical advice, please ask your doctor. I can tell you what I have done or what has worked for me, but I do not have the training to say what may be good for anyone else - although I will probably have many opinions about many things. 5) At this time this website is not a nonprofit organization (501(c)(3)). I may decide to follow that path in the future if the site really takes off, but I just want to keep it simple for now. However, I have decided to give a portion of the net profits (if there are any) to a diabetes charity. Until that time, we will not be asking for donations, but if you buy products from the affiliate partners on this site, a portion will go to charity. |
