My Current Health Status and Why I Haven't Been Good

January 19, 2010

194.  My blood sugar reading 2 hours after lunch on January 10th was 194.  This was following a 145 reading for my am fast reading.  The week before, I had been psyching myself up to going on a strict diet w/ exercise right after my birthday. In order psyche myself into doing this, I went crazy with food.  Not very sugar high foods (although some were, and some I knew had high on the glucose index), but many were very fatty.  I knew my sugar was probably a little high, so I neglected (yes, neglected) to take my sugar.  It all culminated by going to an all-you-can-eat buffet for my birthday dinner that previous night. So my day-after birthday gift was a sugar reading of 194. Okay, not as bad as the 346 when I discovered that I had diabetes, but still not too good either.  That morning, I began my diet.

Over the past 9 days, I have kept to a fairly strict diet.  A lot of chicken, some rice and a ton of salad. However, taking my weight, I have still not lost any weight (as of this morning).  I would have thought I would have lost something already, even a pound or two -- but no.  I think it is the fact that I have not really been exercising -- which leads me to my next paragraph.

A few weeks ago, I messed up my foot (and had a small surgical procedure to the bottom of the foot).  This kept me from doing any type of exercising - even walking to any great effect.  So, for the first week since I began, I did absolutely nothing.  However, this past Saturday (Jan. 16th), I began Tae Kwon Do, with a stretching/cardio class.  Although my foot was not 100%, I stuck in there for the entire class - or at least kept up the best I could. All I can say is that I was dying within 15-20 minutes into the class - and thankfully I did not pass out.  I was tired and exhausted by the end of the class, and my legs and glutes hurt for the next two days - even up until the time I took my second class Monday night.  Tonight I begin with my weight/workout routine - although light.

So my blood sugar scores for this morning was 127 - a lot better, but not close to where I want to be (and it was 113 yesterday morning).

Also note, I did go to the doctor last Wednesday.  He doubled my dosage of prandin to help counter the higher blood levels.  Also an interesting thing did happen there.  He hooked up with a company that believes in homeopathic solutions to health.  He "invited" me to talk to these people about a program that they are hawking based on natural/homeopathic foods and supplements.  The company's name is Metagenics.  I have checked out their website and they pretty much sell "all-natural" supplements for a variety of ailments, as well as promote a healthy lifestyle. They also have a questionnaire to give to your doctor to work out a nutritional program.  I am always willing to try out something new, especially if it will help me.  However, my ultimate goal is to get rid of all of these pills/medications once again.  It took me about a year to do it last time, hopefully it will take shorter this time.  I am also worried about the cost of the supplements -- but my Dr. did mention something about it being paid for my health insurance - but I am not sure if he is talking about the supplements or for the "consultation" meeting with the company's nutritionist.  I'll hopefully keep up with this site, and let you know how it goes.

Until next time . . .
