A Vacation For the Whole Family

Thursday, August 31, 2006

Finally, five days off in a row and four of them will be spent with my family on vacation.  Today did not really start out as planned and we left a little later than estimated, but we did not have to worry about any rush hour traffic.  The first stop was a combo farm & museum.  My kids are young and like animals, so I thought this might be a good start, since the next two days would be spent in an amusement park going on rides.  The place was really nice and I think that everyone enjoyed it, although my youngest one was a bit cranky towards the end.  The rest of the day was spent traveling and hanging out at the hotel (Best Western).

Lunch was out on the road and we stopped off at a McDonalds.  I had the Oriental Chicken Salad.  This place gave a little packet of almond chips on the side.  Of course I added them to my salad with half of the dressing they give you.  I also need to prepare the meal.  I first cut up the chicken into smaller pieces, as well as cut up any large pieces of lettuce.  I add the dressing and the almonds.  I then re-close the container it comes in and shake.  This way dressing gets over everything and I do not need to use the whole packet.  I also allowed myself to have three (only three) small French fries.

For dinner, we went out to a Perkins.  Since it was my first night on vacation, I figured I would treat myself to a steak.  I actually ordered the smaller steak on the menu so I knew I would be able to have the whole thing.  I also ordered healthy vegetables on the side.  I like it well done, but it came out medium-well.  I was hungry and ate it like that.  I finished the whole thing.

After the kids started winding down, I headed off to the hotelís gym.  They had a few machines, but also had a treadmill and a step machine.  For the life of me, I could not figure out how to work the treadmill, so I used the step machine.  It felt kind of weird on my legs, so I only did 15 minutes. I did sweat after the first five, but my calves were tender afterwards.

Good night.
