The Family Weekend

August 4, 2006

I used to look forward to this weekend each year.  My family and my in-laws all get together for a weekend of eating, relaxing and eating.  We would begin discussing the menu in February for this weekend.  This year may have been a little hectic for all of us, but we still had the weekend in mind.  I am not ashamed to say that I looked forward to the food.  From the time we got up on Saturday morning until the time we went to sleep in the wee hours of Sunday morning, we were cooking, eating, going shopping for food or talking about food.   There would be an occasional swim in-between, but essentially for the guys, the weekend revolved around the food.

It really, really bothers me that I will not be able to eat like I had in years past.  I have made up a menu for myself which I can admit is probably a little more than my regular allowance, but not much more.  I have been extremely good for the past six weeks, so a little cheat is not so bad. In fact, we did not get here until almost ten o'clock in the evening, so by the time I finished bringing all of the luggage into the house and the kids settle down it was already 10:30 PM.  My wife watched, then put the kids to sleep (everyone else in the house was already sleeping) while took my blood sugar the, I walked for my half hour of cardio vascular exercise.  [FYI: I notice a 8-10 point increase during nights I do not exercise.  For instance, I was a 90 last night, but tonight I was a 98, probably because I did not exercise until after I took the reading.  Although I am tired, I am glad I exercised.

I am going shopping with my brother-in-law tomorrow morning.  I told him about what I can and cannot eat, and we figured it might be better if I was there to make sure I had the right kind of stuff to eat.

I am so tired right now, I am in a reclined position right now on top of an easy chair.  I was going to do some work on the PopStarsPlus.com website, but I might not be able to keep my eyes open much longer.

Good night!!!
