Customer Service

Monday, July 3, 2006

I had some time today, so I got up the courage to call Accu-Check and find out what was wrong with my glucose machine. [If you have not been reading this blog, I am not worried about using the machine itself, it is the making myself bleed which I have a problem with.]  I called their customer service number and the guy on the phone was very helpful.  Although we could not figure out what was wrong, he told me that he was sending me a brand new machine with a postage paid envelope to return the broken one.  No problems, no hassles and it allowed me a few more days to put off before I have to prick my finger with a sharp object.  Do not think of me as a baby, I just really dislike pain.

This evening I was out with my family and we decided to eat out. Because of my positive experience last Friday at Burger King, we decided to go their again.  I ordered the same thing - a grilled chicken salad.  However, because of the poor customer service, I did not have the same positive experience.  First of all, for a fast food place, it took too long to get the food.  Then, I got the wrong order.  I ordered a kids burger meal.  The server gave me the kids burger meal without the fries, drink or toy (without using the toy as a bribe, how are you going to get the kids to eat the meal?).  He also did not give me any dressing and when I asked he gave me the wrong dressing at first - and I was also given a spoon instead of a knife.  The salad also did not taste the same and it seemed that there was some kind of spice on the chicken that I did notice the other day.  Anyway, I ate my salad (without the croutons).

I weighed myself tonight and it seems that the diet is working.  I bought a scale last Tuesday and when I weighed myself, I was 119 pounds, the scale now reads 115,6.  Three and a half pounds is a nice start to the diet, but I know that I will probably not be losing so rapidly after the first week or two.  I still have to try to work an exercise routine into my day.  If I just lose weight without toning up, my body will still look flabby.  There was a time, many years ago before kids and before marriage when I went to the gym 5 or 6 days a week.  I know I have to try to at least exercise a little bit, but it is hard.  I have read that diabetes is called the "Lifestyle disease" since it's "treatment" is to have the person live a more healthy lifestyle.  However, with kids, work and life, it is not so easy to change.

Oh yes, one more thing that I have decided, I am going to add advertising affiliates to this site.  At first I decided against it, but as I thought about it, adding a money making component would help to support this site, and if I donate a portion of my earnings to diabetes research, it would help other people as well.
